The UN network for the discussion of ideas surrounding development is the United Nations Development Program. Through focusing on encouraging cooperation in fields including poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS, democratic governance, social development, and crisis recovery; the UNDP has brought governments together to enact policies that enhance global levels of human development as a whole. Given that the Administrator of the UNDP is the third highest ranking official in the United Nations after the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General, the work of the United Nations Development Program is always central to the program of work of the UN more widely.
The Security Council is one of the principal organs of the United Nations and tasked with maintaining international peace and security. It consists of 15 member states, where 10 serve a two-year non-permanent term, while five, France, China, Russia, and United Kingdom, and the United States, serve as permanent members, all with veto power. The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. It calls upon the parties of a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to breaking off diplomatic ties and imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees strives to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to eventually return home, integrate or resettle. During times of displacement, UNHCR provides critical emergency assistance in the form of clean water, sanitation and healthcare, as well as shelter blankets, household goods and sometimes food. We also arrange transport and assistance packages for people who return home and income generating projects for those who resettle. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland, and it is a member of the United Nations Development Group. The UNHCR has won two Nobel Peace Prizes, once in 1954 and again in 1981.
The Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) is a Committee of the General Assembly that is specially tasked with addressing a wide range of social and humanitarian affairs as well as human rights issues. Some of the goals of SOCHUM include the advancement of women, the protection of children, the access to free speech, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination, and the promotion of the right to self-determination. The Third Committee has delegated a portion of these responsibilities to its sub-committee, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which reports back to the GA on matters related to human rights. SOCHUM offers the traditional Model United Nations experience for delegates of all experience levels.
The National Crisis Management Cell (reporting name: NCMC) is a primary domestic intelligence assessment and management institution, operational under the Ministry of Interior (MoI). Its other activities involve building efforts towards counter-intelligence, counter-proliferation, and counter-insurgency as well as assisting the government at all levels of commands in managing intelligence. Established in 2001 to tackle the domestic and foreign terrorism in all of its form, and manifestations and to rid the society of religious extremism.However, its influence and role in the intelligence community further grew and further expanded its role in issuing warnings and building efforts against all kinds of threat matrix posed to the state. Headquartered in Islamabad, the NCMC is responsible for electronic monitoring and aerial surveillance to enforce the law and order and security situation throughout the country. It has established computerized and electronic facilities, through an electronic system, in all four provinces
